[Bug 365415] New: How to persuade YaST to have Firefox 32- and 64-bit parallel installed?
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=365415 Summary: How to persuade YaST to have Firefox 32- and 64-bit parallel installed? Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: DOlsson@WEB.de QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: Customer On my "x86-64" system, I would like to have Firefox in both the 32- as well as 64-bit version installed in parallel -- due to the missing 64-bit Java plug-in. But, I have not been able to figure out how to persuade YaST to do this. Currently, I have the 64-bit version of Firefox installed, and as far as I can see, YaST2 does not allow for a parallel installation, nor even for the swapping from the 64-bit to 32-bit version either. Therefore is it at all possible to persuade YaST to have these two versions of Firefox installed in parallel, or do I have to do this manually by myself? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

As Marcus said a parallel installation with RPM is not possible. It never was designed that way (and it doesn't make much sense IMHO). YaST2 does allow "swapping" from the 64bit to the 32bit version (at least if you use the Qt package selector and use the versions tab there. AFAIK the Gtk selector doesn't have support for that. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Well, yes, I have seen this, but clicking on "i586" does not make YaST do anything -- Had expected that the 64-bit got uninstalled and "i586" installed, but nothing of the sort happens; In fact, nothing happens, after having clicked on "i586" under the "Versions"-tab and then on "Accept". Is this intended, or I am missing something -- or is it a bug? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Its not possible, since they have overlapping filenames and one would destroy the other.
How are the chances to make it possible with different directories for parallel configurations? KDE 3 and 4 can coexist. I imagine that a similar choice would be useful for a couple of other applications (during software migration). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
