While testing different display managers for these two bugs: Bug 807091 - XFCE ignores .i18n file Bug 807097 - On default XFCE install, display manager fails to halt or reboot machine ...I found out that installing 'wdm' and swithching to it crashed the machine hard. Procedure: alt-ctrl-f1 log as root init 3 edit displaymanager variable init 5 I had to reboot by power cycling. Machine did not reach graphical mode. Had to edit displaymanager entry back to xdm and reboot, init 3/5 failed again.
