[Bug 875370] New: Xen fails to setup devices and is therefore unable to start a (pv) domain
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=875370 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=875370#c0 Summary: Xen fails to setup devices and is therefore unable to start a (pv) domain Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 13.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 13.1 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Xen AssignedTo: jdouglas@suse.com ReportedBy: g.w.kant@hunenet.nl QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=587841) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=587841) Output of lsmod User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:29.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/29.0 Since I assume other people are successfully running domains on systems based on openSUSE 13.1, this could be a missing dependency resulting from the way my installation is carried out. Therefore, I describe it from there. On a new install, starting from minimal text only, I add the pattern for Xen VMM and add manually libvirt. After installing a full update is performed. To get libvirtd starting, I have to add manually a user qemu to the system, which is annoying but okay. In dom0 Xen runs with the xend tool set, I am not using xl. I use virt-manager to setup a new domain, however the problem is not related to virt-manager. If a domain is setup manually, I run into the same problem. xm start d1 prepares the domain and enters the pause state waiting for devices to appear. After a long time out, the xm start gives up. Here are the relevant lines from xend.log: [2014-04-26 22:59:48 1129] DEBUG (DevController:144) Waiting for 51712. Hotplug scripts not working. [2014-04-26 23:01:41 1129] DEBUG (XendDomainInfo:3187) XendDomainInfo.destroy: domid=6 It is not related to the type of device. This one is complaining about vbd, since I disabled the vif statement in the configuration. With a vif, the start bails out on the vif device. My rpm -qa list and lsmod list are added as attachments. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Prepare a domain d1 2. xm update d1 3. xm start d1 Actual Results: Unprivileged domain is not starting Expected Results: Get unprivileged pv domains starting properly -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

So the problem is narrowed to the use of xend to manage domains. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I noticed before that searching bugs in this bugzilla is flaky. I noticed ones that I even was unable to find my own bugs through a search based on keywords. Anyway, I marked this one as a duplicate of https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=874463 and closed this one. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 874463 *** http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=874463 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
