We have a nice package (driver:wireless/carl9170-firmware) but we don't provide it by default. As a result users with a AR9170 WiFi device haven't Internet connection.
Well, as long as this package is not included into the standard installation images. putting them into $ONLINE_REPO won't improve things significantly.
Axel, any reason not to do so?
Not from my point of view, but this package was built explicitly for use with compat-wireless and the versioning of firmware will be kept in sync to the versions of the driver in the compat-wireless package, so who ever (and I won't because I won't get involved in putting anything into Factory) wants to put that into some "official" openSUSE-Repo will have to consider that and most likely maintain his own versions. If you want to push this package upstream, feel free to do so or otherwise feel free to ask people maintaining packages in Factory, as said before, I don't want to get involved into that process, building packages for driver:wireless is enough for me.
