https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=457047 Summary: Fn-keys for display brighness, monitor switch, wireless switch (!) etc. do not work in Samsung NC10 Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: RC 1 Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: mywwa-sufo@yahoo.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- I installed OpenSUSE 11.1 RC1 x86 on a 1024x600 Pixel netbook (Samsung NC10/Atom N270/2GB/160GB). Most things work fine, however, the Fn-keys for display brighness, monitor switch, wireless switch (!) etc., do not. When pressing one of these keys, a message appears in /var/log/messages that these can be bound, but this does not help. The problem is that these keys can really be handled by the BIOS, which is apparent in the GRUB boot menu. However, for some reason the keys are intercepted by the kernel. So, the only way to handle them is to use setkeycodes to bind the kernel packet to a key code, then one needs to bind this to a shell script via window manger tools, then one needs to experiment with xrandr or other commands to do the functionality. This is very complicated (nothing for newbies) and unnecessary (the BIOS is able to provide the functionality!) Please, give an option to have these keys handled by the BIOS! -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
