[Bug 803507] New: Installer graphic screen is in half crashed on MacBookPro
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=803507 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=803507#c0 Summary: Installer graphic screen is in half crashed on MacBookPro Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: RC 1 Platform: 64bit OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: bluedzins@wp.pl QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:14.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/14.0.1 OS 12.3 RC1, 64-bit, DVD. I triple check the data -- first downloaded iso image vs. sha1 sum, then burner checked the burned disc, and then I checked the medium with the installer verifier. No errors. When I run installer on MacBookPro: * with default resolution or lower when it comes to showing license agreement in upper half of the screen I see "white noise" and in the second (bottom) half I see half of the content * with "no KMS" option turned on, installer freezes on "starting udev" step The efffect is, I cannot install OS 12.3 using GUI installer. This is regression, because I don't have such problem with previous versions of OS. Reproducible: Always -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=803507 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=803507#c2 --- Comment #2 from Maciej Pilichowski <bluedzins@wp.pl> 2013-02-20 11:49:25 UTC --- Full spec: http://support.apple.com/kb/SP544 and as for graphic card: All models: NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics processor with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory3 Selected models: NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT graphics processor with 256MB of GDDR3 memory on 2.66GHz configuration; or 512MB of GDDR3 memory on 2.8GHz and 3.06GHz configurations Now the question is how can I check this? AFAIK this model has 2 cards, which are switched on-fly when using MacOSX. In Windows and Linux only one is used, but I don't know if the used = should be used. When I run Windows I see 9400M. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

First try booting with kernel boot parameters: nouveau.modeset=0 In case this doesn't work with nomodeset The latter disables KMS for nouveau *and* intel driver. RC2 + first options -- the screen is readable, however the image of the screen is bigger than the screen frame, so entire image is not visible. You have to move mouse next to edge of the frame, and the frame will scroll over the image screen. RC2 + second options -- the same as above. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

There is only NVIDIA GPU on the bus. No Intel at all. Probably best right now is enabling the kernel framebuffer via vga=0xXXX option and using fbdev driver (currently vesa driver is used) or switching to NVIDIA's proprietary driver. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
