[Bug 410715] New: Not able to boot, when CF-Disk is not in cardreader.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=410715 Summary: Not able to boot, when CF-Disk is not in cardreader. Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Alpha 0 Platform: 64bit OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: Booting AssignedTo: jsrain@novell.com ReportedBy: monkey9@iae.nl QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- It is not possible to boot when a CF-Disk is present in fstab, and that disk is not present in the card reader. To boot normal, i had to remove the entries from fstab. I think that removable media should not be permanently registered in fstab, or, that the system should be dependable on removable media to boot. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Were they added automatically by the installation? If so, could you, please, attach the installation log? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I needed the CF-Card to create 3 and format 2 partitions: one ext3, and one swap. The original VFAT as first. After that, they were mounted as such, and registered in fstab, (as i noticed when the systemmessage notyfied about that there was some thing with usb-reader, and only ctrl+d rebooted) But that way the system doesn't boot, if the card has changed, or isn't in the drive, so i had to remove the entries manualy, to get rid of the problem. Not a big deal for me, but i think removable media should be recognised as such, and not persee nessesary to boot the installed os? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I supposed they'd come in that way. They were mounted, and had to be umounted, to process the changes. There is a message that says they have to be un-mounted first, but if you do that yourself, it won't work. Yast has to do it to make the changes come trough. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

If not mounted, they cannot be read and accessed, but every change can be made to it.... My thought about this is: Hal must check if a medium is in a device at boottime. If the device is present, and a medium is in it, it should be mounted, if it was at some time present at boottime, but not atm, it should not be required to boot. (if at least it is possible, to temporarily add entries to fstab..) Because, removable media likely can be different size and content If possible, i know that it takes extra boottime, but that would only be few milisecs.. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

PLaying around did not bring the answer/solution, so i filed a bug for that: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=481938 the System did not completely shut down. I do not know if these things are related, but state it anyhow. About this bug: The system did boot without CF-Disk in the drive, and there was nothing i had to do, as selecting the checkbox for not to mount during boot. So i guess this is solved. If you want, you can close it for now. If the problem reappears, i'll reopen, ok? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
