[Bug 463361] New: Firefox stops working
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=463361 Summary: Firefox stops working Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Firefox AssignedTo: bnc-team-mozilla@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: kristjan.ugrin@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- This is the second time I got into this situation, seems like firefox breaks down after update. /usr/lib/firefox/firefox: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9.0.5/libxul.so: undefined symbol: PR_GetEnv mozilla-xulrunner190 1.9.0.5-1.1 (from updates) MozillaFirefox 3.0.5-1.1 (from updates) Reinstalling doesn't help (and purging xulrunner from disk), neither downgrading. I'm also not sure what is causing this. Only unstable software running here is KDE 4.2 from unstalbe repositories, but I cannot see how this would interfere. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The message implies that the package mozilla-nspr is missing (or mozilla-nspr-32bit if you are on 64bit). As RPM dependencies are right I'm wondering how you got into that state? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Probably because mozilla-nspr was updated too. Could it be because of power outage? It happened three days ago and I know that the other partition was having problems with new downloaded files after the crash, full lengthy check fixed this, which I did on root partition too. Otherwise I cannot see how this happened, yast dependancies are fine and I'm not able to reproduce it. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I remember doing a full update last time, but don't know if firefox was on the list, mostly kde4 packages. Can you tell me how to get some usefull information from my system about what happened? Seems like a bug, but a rare one to hit. Yast tells me that all dependancies are ok. I guess reinstalling mozilla-nspr would fix this. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The rest looks ok but the above shouldn't be the case. That means that the files don't match the package itself while I'm really wondering how that could happen. Please only reinstall mozilla-nspr, check rpm -V mozilla-nspr and check if it works again. But before please done one last check rpm -qf /usr/lib/libnspr4.so -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Firefox started without problems. For the last test I unfortunately saw it too late. Is it possible that some other package is updating those files too? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Since this happened on two different machines, I think that it is something with common extra repos. Mostly updates comes from kde4 ones, nowadays I use just few kde3 application. Will try to run rpm -qf /usr/lib/libnspr4.so if I run into this problem again. I also tried seraching for those files in yast, but they are only inside mozilla-nspr. Is it possible that those files could come with any other package but yast will not find them? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
