https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=344151#c3 --- Comment #3 from Uwe Lienig <uwe.lienig@t-online.de> 2007-11-27 13:53:46 MST --- I'm using KDE. KDE 3.5.7 "release 72.2" as comes with openSuSE 10.3. I don't use Compiz / Compiz Fusion or Beryl. There is a another way to crash X. If xmoto (a 2D moto cross game) is started via the KDE menu the system locks hard. If xmoto is start from a command shell in a terminal window, it comes up and runs ok. fgl_glxgears does not run either. It stops with Using GLX_SGIX_pbuffer X Error of failed request: GLXUnsupportedPrivateRequest Major opcode of failed request: 143 (GLX) Minor opcode of failed request: 16 (X_GLXVendorPrivate) Serial number of failed request: 41 Current serial number in output stream: 42 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Try running "LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/X11R6/lib/ fgl_glxgears". -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=344151#c5 --- Comment #5 from Uwe Lienig <uwe.lienig@t-online.de> 2007-12-02 14:11:18 MST --- OK, that made the program run. I got something between 500 and 800 fps. It depended on visibility and the like. But I could trigger the bug as well. Just before writing this comment I ran fgl_glxgears. This locked the system hard. I had the switch off the system. If I could be of any help by setting something to a certain debug level I'm willing to do that. Let me know. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Thanks to your install instructions I had no hassle installing the driver. It was as easy as updating the driver in YaST. Sax2 afterwards freezed the system but after a reboot login an logout worked. __BUT__ I now have the resolution problem as described here http://ohioloco.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=647311 and in other discussion forums (openSUSE as well). Up to know I only read about known issues in the 8.44 driver. What a pity! (I regret to use cuss words.)
From ati website:
https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/catalyst_7... * Connecting a display device that supports 1680x1050 to a system running Linux may result in a maximum display resolution of 1280x1024 only being available Therefore the new driver solves one problem but opens up a lot of others. I wouldn't call it a fix! -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Since the initial isuse has been fixed I resolve this as FIXED now. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
