When is the directory this bookmarks file is saved to created? Therefore, I propose we commit Coolo's workaround for now, which avoids this annoying error in 100% of new installations. We are midway toward 12.1 and the real issue never showed up. So the check is not a major issue. The bookmarks file ~/.local/share//user-places.xbel is usually created without problem. If the disk is full, there will be other, much more critical problems to test for.
