[Bug 732156] New: ddclient causes abusive updates, probably due to perl problem in openSUSE 12.1
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=732156 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=732156#c0 Summary: ddclient causes abusive updates, probably due to perl problem in openSUSE 12.1 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Development AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: triffterer@web.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=463513) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=463513) Output of ddclient -daemon=0 -noquiet -debug -verbose. Confidential information has been replaced by XXXXXXXX User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:8.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/8.0 Two days ago I updated from openSUSE 11.4 to 12.1. I use ddclient to update my dynamic IP address at dyndns.com. ddclient was working fine before the update, but afterwards I was receiving e-mails from dyndns stating that my host was blocked because of abusive updates. While investigating the problem, I found that ddclient seems to have a problem reading the result delievered from members.dyndns.org. ddclient connects there using HTTPS to update the IP address and receives a HTTP/1.1 200 OK as a result and my IP is indeed updated at the dyndns service. Nevertheless, ddclient believes that the update has failed and tries again 5 minutes later (and again and again) which causes the account to be blocked because of abusive updates. I searched the problem on the internet and found the following thread in a FreeBSD forum where they found out that it is a Perl related bug: http://forums.freebsd.org/showthread.php?t=27378 Apparently, the Perl component IO::Socket::SSL has to be updated/patchted to fix the problem. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Have an account at dyndns.com 2. Install ddclient from the standard openSUSE 12.1 repo (or the DVD) and configure it to use your account. 3. Start ddclient (to debug it, execute "ddclient -daemon=0 -noquiet -debug -verbose" as user root) Actual Results: ddclient does a successfull update but believes the update to have failed and tries again until your account is blocked. Additionally, your IP is not updated in /var/cache/ddclient/ddclient.cache Expected Results: ddclient should recognize that the update was successfull, store your IP in its cache file /var/cache/ddclient/ddclient.cache and attempt a new update only when your IP changes. After I manually upgraded IO::Socket:SSL to version 1.49 using CPAN, the problem disappeared. In openSUSE, the package "perl-IO-Socket-SSL" is responsible, it should be updated/patched. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
