[Bug 547076] New: NETCONFIG_DNS_STATIC_SEARCHLIST="domain.com" is not preserved when NetworkManager restarts
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=547076 Summary: NETCONFIG_DNS_STATIC_SEARCHLIST="domain.com" is not preserved when NetworkManager restarts Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: RC 1 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: ben.kevan@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Opera/9.80 (X11; Linux i686; U; en) Presto/2.2.15 Version/10.00 If I set: NETCONFIG_DNS_STATIC_SEARCHLIST="domain.com" in /etc/sysconfig/network/config It is not preserved when I restart NetworkManager with: /sbin/service network restart You can see search domain.com in /etc/resolv.conf, until NetworkManager completes DHCP look up, when /etc/resolv.con is overwritten without the static NETCONFIG entry.. Is the intended use not to be compatible with NetworkManager? if so, is there a method where I can add what static domains to keep while using NetworkManager, and is there a way to indicate in which order it should be preserved? (ie, I want it at the end). Thank you Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Modify NETCONFIG_DNS_STATIC_SEARCHLIST="domain.com" 2. Restart network 3. Actual Results: The domain defined in NETCONFIG_DNS_STATIC_SEARCHLIST is not preserved Expected Results: The domain to be in the search list. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Is the intended use not to be compatible with NetworkManager?
Yes. NetworkManager maintains/merges everything itself and netconfig is just using it by default -- NM requires this "exclusivity" to properly apply its logic. [...]
and is there a way to indicate in which order it should be preserved? (ie, I want it at the end).
Yes, the user is able to change this in NETCONFIG_DNS_POLICY, exactly for cases like this. The default "auto" policy resolves into "STATIC_FALLBACK NetworkManager" when NM is active. You have to change the policy to use: NETCONFIG_DNS_POLICY="NetworkManager STATIC" adding static settings at the end in this case. See also "man 8 netconfig". => WORKSFORME, just needs a custom netconfig policy. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
