http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=618953 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=618953#c0 Summary: Fan all time full throttle after suspend to ram [gtx260] Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: RC 1 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: langkamp@tomblog.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; de; rv:1.9.2.4) Gecko/20100527 SUSE/3.6.4-2.2 Firefox/3.6.4 The Fan of my nvidia gtx260 graphics card runs usualy at 40%, but after waking up from suspend to RAM it goes to full throttle (sounds like a vacuum cleaner) even though the temperature is as low as it was some seconds ago. If I reboot or suspend to DISK and wake up again, the fan goes back to normal speed. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. fresh install 11.3 M7, zypper dup to RC1 2. (deactivate noveau driver by cp xorg.install to xorg.conf) don´t know if this is really needed 3. suspend to ram and wake up Actual Results: graphic card fan at full throttle Expected Results: graphic card fan at low/normal throttle -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

(deactivate noveau driver by cp xorg.install to xorg.conf) don´t know if this is really needed Which graphics driver are you using? Could you try whether different graphics drivers work/not work. If it's the graphic's card fan, it's probably the graphics driver that controls it, if it's the binary nvidia driver, we might not be able to do much about it.
Talked with the X guys. You should try to disable kms (Kernel mode Setting) and try the binary nvidia driver, this one may have this functionality implemented. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
