[Bug 221602] New: sax2 says 1600x1200 but testing always gives 1280x1024
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=221602 Summary: sax2 says 1600x1200 but testing always gives 1280x1024 Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Beta 2 plus Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: SaX2 AssignedTo: ms@novell.com ReportedBy: wstephenson@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de nv driver, HP LP2065 monitor, nvidia 6600GT, DVI connection. Sax2 correctly identifies all the hardware and suggests the 1600x1200 native resolution correctly but when the config is tested, I always get 1280x1024. *) under 10.1 this resolution works with nv *) The install bootloader offers a maximum of 1280x1024, could this problem have something to do with 1600x1200 not being reported as available by the bios? The motherboard does not have onboard graphics either. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

After I couldn't set the resolution with nv, i grabbed sndirsch's binary KMPs, as it works with nvidia. I assumed you just wanted the bios information from sax2 -r and the actual driver in use would not matter. Want me to repeat without 'nvidia'? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I'm even not sure if the binary nvidia drivers takes care for the bios at all but nv does. In short without the nv log I can't tell you much :-) Maybe Stefan can say without a log whether my assumtions are correct or not so you may not provide the nv log -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=221602 ------- Comment #6 from sndirsch@novell.com 2006-11-20 04:31 MST ------- The problem is that the VBIOS of some NVIDIA cards do not support modes higher than 1280x1024, but the nv driver needs this support for DVI connected monitors. This is the reason why you need the nvidia driver. It should work, when you apply the monitor to the VGA connector. I could verify my assumption with a logfile for the nv driver. Hope this helps. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

(II) NV(0): Mode "1600x1200" is larger than BIOS programmed panel size of 1280 x 1024. Removing. Looks like my assumptions were correct.
*) under 10.1 this resolution works with nv Hmm. Make sure to boot with the monitor connected from the beginning. This might change the situation.

"Under 10.1 this resolution worked with nv, before I had an LCD monitor." But you applied the monitor to the VGA connector, right?
