It came as a surprise for the bug reporter; it may also come as a surprise for other users. I admit I didn't read the whole installation manual thoroughly, but a casual look didn't really force that tidbit of information on me. Since that is so different from other architectures, we might want to put that into a prominent place. I don't know how useful it is in general to default to a serial console.
