[Bug 539979] New: gimp file > open location fails to open a URI
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=539979 Summary: gimp file > open location fails to open a URI Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: wefing@gmx.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.13) Gecko/2009080200 SUSE/3.0.13-0.1.2 Firefox/3.0.13 When I try to load a remote image by its URI into gimp via "File -> Open Location" I receive a gimp error message, e.g., Opening 'http://www.gimpbook.com/origpix/ch1/pa201665.jpg' failed: Could not open 'http://www.gimpbook.com/origpix/ch1/pa201665.jpg' for reading: No such file or directory However, the image file _does_ exist; I can download it via wget. The same error message pops up if I drag-and-drop an image from firefox to a gimp window. kato tmp/graphics_test> rpm -qi gimp Name : gimp Relocations: (not relocatable) Version : 2.6.2 Vendor: openSUSE Release : 2.18 Build Date: Do 04 Dez 2008 08:48:18 CET Install Date: Do 08 Jan 2009 21:30:57 CET Build Host: build12 Group : Productivity/Graphics/Bitmap Editors Source RPM: gimp-2.6.2-2.18.src.rpm Size : 24611603 License: GPL v2 or later Signature : RSA/8, Do 04 Dez 2008 08:50:27 CET, Key ID b88b2fd43dbdc284 Packager : http://bugs.opensuse.org URL : http://www.gimp.org/ Summary : The GNU Image Manipulation Program I use the fvwm2 window manager on an up-to-date opensuse 11.1 system. All dependencies are fulfilled. There are several ways in which gimp may open a URI (gvfs, gnome-vfs, libcurl, wget). The method it actually uses is set by compile time options. I guess that the prerequisites for a working "open location" function are currently not met by the software management system of opensuse 11.1 (missing package, daemon not started, etc.). In any case, the compile time options for the gimp package should be chosen in such a way that the "open location" function does not depend on the type of the user's desktop environment. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. start gimp without any arguments on the command line. 2. from the empty image window select "File > Open Location" and enter the URI http://www.gimpbook.com/origpix/ch1/pa201665.jpg 3. press "Open" Actual Results: An error message pops up: Opening 'http://www.gimpbook.com/origpix/ch1/pa201665.jpg' failed: Could not open 'http://www.gimpbook.com/origpix/ch1/pa201665.jpg' for reading: No such file or directory Expected Results: gimp should load the remote image and should show it in the image window. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
