https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=341638 Summary: 2.6.24-rc2-4-default dependencies for iwl3945 need rework Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: unspecified Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: casualprogrammer@yahoo.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Beta-Customer Since 2.6.24-rc2-4-default the driver for iwl3945 seems to be part of the kernel package, which is nice. Still the existing packages ipw345 / iwl3945 are not removed when updating. Also there is no dependency between 2.6.24-rc2-4-default and iwl3945-ucode. iwl3945-ucode can be deleted without yast complaining, it will also delete the driver files. Updating the kernel reinstalls the driver files, yet iwl3945-ucode if left out. Only when configuring the network yast notices the miss and grabs iwl3945-ucode for you. cat /etc/SuSE-release openSUSE 10.3.1 (i586) Alpha0 VERSION = 10.3.1 uname -r 2.6.24-rc2-4-default rpm -qa | grep iwl iwl3945-ucode-2.14.1.5-17 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

--- Comment #4 from Helmut Schaa
Still the existing packages ipw345 / iwl3945 are not removed when updating.
That needs fixing.
Also there is no dependency between 2.6.24-rc2-4-default and iwl3945-ucode.
That's intended. We won't add any kind of dependency between iwl3945-ucode and the kernel. The needed supplements-tag is already set.
iwl3945-ucode can be deleted without yast complaining, it will also delete the driver files. Updating the kernel reinstalls the driver files, yet iwl3945-ucode if left out.
That's an Yast-issue. Would you please open a new bug-report for this issue if still true for Beta1? Thanks.
Only when configuring the network yast notices the miss and grabs iwl3945-ucode for you.
Yes, the ucode exposes a supplements-tag which is only interpreted by Yast currently. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
