[Bug 687496] New: Live CD fails to start X on Dell Latitude E6510 with NVIDIA NVS 3100M
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=687496 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=687496#c0 Summary: Live CD fails to start X on Dell Latitude E6510 with NVIDIA NVS 3100M Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.4 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: vagelis_giannadakis@yahoo.gr QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:2.0.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0 I downloaded the GNOME Live CD and tried it both from a CD and a USB stick. I still need to use nomodeset, or my screen just blanks-out shortly after the splash appears -- maybe irrelevant, but very annoying none-the-less... After the services begin to start, I get the screen-blinking behavior and errors on the console about gdm not being able to start X. Looking at the X logs reveals that the nouveau driver gets loaded, but DRI complains about not being able to access the device and X fails saying it cannot find a screen.
