I worked around this by noticing that there is a file /usr/sbin/bacula-dir.mysql and I created a hard link to it. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Created an attachment (id=452007) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=452007) [details] bacula 5.0.3 spec file
well, it seems my spec file fixes did not make it into Archiving:Backup / Archiving:Backup:Factory
to whomever it concerns: using the attached spec file and the otherwise unchanged sources from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Archiving:/Backup/openSUSE_11.4/sr... i have flawlessly built bacula packages for 11.3 and 11.4 (rpmbuild -ba) and am using these for several months now for backup (and restore :-) without having seen an error
Would you like to take bacula off my hands? I would be happy to help with anything that you have a problem with but I have never used bacula and took over maintenance at the request of a user and now I have no time due to multimedia and other packages that I maintain. If you haven't yet got a build service account, open one and I will add you as bacula maintainer and show you how easy it is to use. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I think this bug has been fixed by the new bacula maintainers can the reporter please confirm.
Although I am not the reporter: I have upgraded my Bacula 5.0.2-1 installation (from openSUSE 11.4 Contrib) to Bacula 5.2.6-208.1 (from Backup:Factory) via YaST by - adding the repo - selecting the new meta package bacula-mysql for installation - selecting the package bacula-bat for update as it had remained on the old version although a newer version existed for it in Factory - selecting the other packages which still remained on the old version for removal (including bacula-client, of which a new version is offered but cannot be installed because it conflicts with bacula-mysql) - selecting the bacula-tray-monitor-qt and bacula-docs-* packages for installation because I had their predecessors bacula-traymonitor and bacula-doc, for which updating hadn't worked because of the name change After the upgrade, I had to reinstall the configuration files from their rpmsave backups and run /usr/lib64/bacula/update_bacula_tables manually. Apart from that, everything worked smoothly. Particularly, no problem with update alternatives. So from my POV this bug is fixed. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

So our final recommendation, will be to uninstall any bacula related packages before getting the new ones. At least the report will help me to setup the corresponding wiki page documenting the whole process.
If you do such a writeup there's another point you might want to mention, which I omitted in my report because it's not directly related to this bug: The new packages switch to running bacula-sd and bacula-dir as non-root, so you have to adapt the ownership of a few files and directories. Specifically, if you uninstall the old packages and install the new ones, the config files, working directory, logs, bootstrap files etc. will be stay around with their previous owner (generally, root) and mode. For the new version to operate correctly, I changed the group of all files in /etc/bacula to bacula, and the owner and group of the Bacula working directory (including its content) to bacula.bacula; and I deleted/renamed all log and bootstrap files so that Bacula could recreate them. Not sure if that's the best way but it worked for me.
