https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=779403 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=779403#c0 Summary: Network Manager disconnects with "ICMPv6 RA: ndisc_router_discovery() failed to add default route" Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: john@layt.net QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:15.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/15.0 Did a zypper dup from 12.1 to 12.2. Network Manager disconnects/reconnects about every 30 seconds. Logs are flooded with error message: ICMPv6 RA: ndisc_router_discovery() failed to add default route Google found a Red Hat bug and NM fix for this issue, apparently kernel 3.3 and NM argue over deleting the default route: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=785772 http://cgit.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/commit/?id=77de91e5a8b1c1993ae65c54b37e0411e78e6fe6 Disabling NM and using ifup instead works around the issue. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Enable Network Manager in YAST Actual Results: Log message appears, NM disconnects. Expected Results: No error message, no disconnections. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I found that even though I had disabled IPv6 on YAST, /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/wlan0/disable_ipv6 was still set to 0. All the other disable_ipv6 (eth0, lo, and all) were set to 1. Setting the value to 0 made the message go away. Not sure if at this point we should have another bug for not properly disabling IPv6. The new version of NM has already made it in Fedora. When can we have it in openSUSE? Does the new version fix your issue? We will use the new version in next release, if the new version could fix your issue, we might be backport the

It still takes quite some time (order minutes) before I can access via IPv6, while access through IPv4 is already possible. When I remove the default route for IPv6, I do not get this message anymore. However it takes a lot of time (order 10 minutes) before the default route appears in the routing table. Before it appears: raspberrypi:~ # ip -6 r 2001:980:xxxx:1::1:34 dev eth0 proto kernel metric 256 2001:980:xxxx:1::1:36 dev eth0 proto kernel metric 256 2001:980:xxxx:1::1:37 dev eth0 proto kernel metric 256 fe80::/64 dev eth0 proto kernel metric 256 After it appears: raspberrypi:~ # ip -6 r 2001:980:xxxx:1::1:34 dev eth0 proto kernel metric 256 mtu 1492 2001:980:xxxx:1::1:36 dev eth0 proto kernel metric 256 mtu 1492 2001:980:xxxx:1::1:37 dev eth0 proto kernel metric 256 mtu 1492 2001:980:xxxx:1::/64 dev eth0 proto kernel metric 256 expires 4698sec fe80::/64 dev eth0 proto kernel metric 256 default via fe80::9ec7:a6ff:fe0a:1f48 dev eth0 proto ra metric 1024 expires 1774sec With the IPv6 default route in thye routes file I get: raspberrypi:~ # ip -6 r 2001:980:xxxx:1::1:34 dev eth0 proto kernel metric 256 2001:980:xxxx:1::1:36 dev eth0 proto kernel metric 256 2001:980:xxxx:1::1:37 dev eth0 proto kernel metric 256 fe80::/64 dev eth0 proto kernel metric 256 default via fe80::9ec7:a6ff:fe0a:1f48 dev eth0 metric 1024 But the error message in /var/log/messages reappears about each 8 minutes. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
