http://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1087708 Bug ID: 1087708 Summary: mc calls xls2csv with wrong parameters causing error Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 42.3 Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Other Assignee: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: carlos.e.r@opensuse.org QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- I tried to view two two files with xls extension with mc (Midnight Commander), and it complained that it could not because xls2csv was not installed. I installed it, then I got the following error: +++------- xls2csv - Recode a spreadsheet's charset and save as CSV. usage: xls2csv -x spreadsheet.xls [-w worksheet] [-n worksheet number] [-b charset] [-c csvfile.csv] [-a charset] [-qshvWf] -x : filename of the source spreadsheet -b : the character set the source spreadsheet is in (before) ... -------++- Ie, it is being called with incorrect syntax or something. I can not provide the xls files, they are bank statements; but they are not in fact xls files: Composite Document File V2 Document, Little Endian, Os: Windows, Version 6.1, Code page: 1252, Create Time/Date: Fri Oct 2 09:36:30 2015, Last Saved Time/Date: Fri Oct 2 09:38:52 2015, Name of Creating Application: Microsoft Excel, Security: 0 HTML document, ISO-8859 text, with very long lines Libre Office opens them without problems. 'mc' is creating on the fly and running this script to view them: +++------- #! /bin/sh MC_EXT_FILENAME=/home/cer/Download/Firefox_downloads/300_....xls export MC_EXT_FILENAME MC_EXT_BASENAME=30032018_5534_0006056714.xls export MC_EXT_BASENAME MC_EXT_CURRENTDIR=/home/cer/Download/Firefox_downloads export MC_EXT_CURRENTDIR MC_EXT_SELECTED="30032018_5534_0006056714.xls" export MC_EXT_SELECTED MC_EXT_ONLYTAGGED="" export MC_EXT_ONLYTAGGED xls2csv /home/cer/Download/Firefox_downloads/300....xls || strings /home/cer/Download/Firefox_downloads/300.....xls -------++- It appears to me that if the command failed it should use "strings", but it doesn't. It seems the correct syntax is "xls2csv -x file.xls -c - -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
