[Bug 493152] New: Build020: automatic installation stalls
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=493152 Summary: Build020: automatic installation stalls Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Factory Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Blocker Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: mzugec@novell.com ReportedBy: coolo@novell.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- Created an attachment (id=284713) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=284713) yast logs I'm testing openSUSE-11.2-Alpha0-DVD-i586-Build0020-Media.iso (unfortunately not in prague - already notified autobuild team) and the installation worked ok, but the automatic configuration stops at 16% and does not proceed. The machine is a kvm instance. The logs stop at "reading hwinfo" for network, so I assign to miso right away. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

On Lukas' machine I saw one such case and there the child - did not get to execing the intended process yet - had only fds 0 1 2 open - was waiting in futex(2)
From this I infer that the problem might be in system(3) called by shellcommand(...) in http://svn.opensuse.org/svn/yast/trunk/core/agent-system/src/ShellCommand.cc

Kill -9 both of them, then it will go on. I can reproduce it in the running system by: ( while true; do echo '`Execute(.target.bash_output, "date >&2")' | /usr/lib/YaST2/bin/y2base stdio scr ) # the parens enable ^Z + fg And then letting it run and sending it ^C randomly. The processes hang in futex(2), yet they have only a single thread (says gdb and /proc/PID/status). FWIW, to my knowledge the only part of YaST dealing with threads is these 3 files: http://svn.opensuse.org/svn/yast/trunk/libyui/src/YUI.h http://svn.opensuse.org/svn/yast/trunk/libyui/src/YUI.cc http://svn.opensuse.org/svn/yast/trunk/libyui/src/YUILog.cc -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Pasky, please help. I don't know if YaST is doing something wrong but the code in comment 14 and comment 13 has not changed recently, so I am afraid the problem is somewhere lower. Oh and now I realize that the YUI code is not present at all in the shell loop from comment 14, so there really should not be any threads. Yet it waits in futex, WTF. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Sure, it's because the bug never appeared in older releases. So although the code has been wrong for a long time, there was no need.
