For whatever reason, almost each time I enable Compiz working with it, regularly shut down and switch on my box the next day, this setting is lost and Metacity is started. Re-enabling Compiz works without problems, there is no hang or any visible problem with it. I'm not sure, whether this comes from an automatic grahics driver recognition, I use SDirsch's Xorg:X11 repository for openSUSE 11.3 with the latest ATI (radeon) driver. I'm not sure which diagnostic data you might want for this, I sent you the previous and the current X log. I'm also not sure whether to assign this to GNOME or X11, please decide.
