Discover must be fixed or if not possible, .rpm files should be open with "YaST Software" by default. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Download some .rpm package, for instance: https://go.skype.com/skypeforlinux-64.rpm 2.Open such file "skypeforlinux-64.rpm" by clicking on it. 3.Discover is open and it shows you information about the application to install. 4.When you click on "Install" button, the application fails to install and give a error message. Actual Results: RPM files are open with Discover by default but Discover can't install them or has some bug for installing them. Expected Results: Discover should install .rpm applications successfully or if not possible, RPM files should be open with "YaST Software" instead. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Not sure why GNOME was chosen, as you mention Plasma Discover. Because PackageKit is maintained by the GNOME team.

If a fix in Discover/PackageKit is not easy, please, just change the default app to open .rmp packages from Discover to Yast Software. This is the faster and easier fix. But please, do not relase 15.2 with this bug.
