To reproduce the problem, run 'Update' when installing, then when in the 'Online Update" window, click on the tab 'Select' and do a search for an rpm - any rpm. I suggest the following test case: My keyboard is set to FR, when I am in the 'Online Update", I can not search for 'gkrellm' by typing the 'word' because my keyboard is in 'QUERTY' and I require 'AZERTY' (hint : my problem is with the letter 'm') @+ James -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I set Language to German in syslinux. The Live-System ran fine with German keyboard. The installer set German as default language, but after the ejection of my (unused) CD-tray and reboot (or kexec?), keyboard was back at US layout. Have you tried running "sudo /sbin/yast2 language" after installation? It solved the keyboard/language problem for me. But nevertheless, this is a serious issue that needs fixing. I had problems typing in my password in sudo, because special characters are located elsewhere on US layout. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

And was your keyboard layout correct after the installation was finished? I tried to install in Czech and even if I selected Czech keyboard layout, I had US X11 keyboard layout in second stage (yes, I had to disable Automatic configuration on start). But /etc/sysconfig/keyboard was correct and after 2nd stage (containing host name, online update etc.) finished and KDM started, X11 layout was correctly set to Czech. Has this changed? After installation the system starts into runlevel 5, runs xdm scripts, which triggers the keytable4hal script to create the HAL keyboard file, so the right keyboard layout is loaded by the Xserver. Thus the correct keyboard layout is set after installation. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Jiri, I would have expected that in second stage YaST is setting the keyboard layout on-the-fly (probably by running setxkbmap) the same way as it is set in the first stage. Has this changed?
It has not changed, which is exactly the point. Originally we were saving xorg.conf at the end of first stage, so 2nd stage could use the saved one. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

That can't work, since the input section for 'kbd' driver is ignored by now, unless you set the "AutoAddDevices" option in ServerFlags section to "off". How does your written xorg.conf look like? I thought YaST is longer creating any xorg.conf? I'm confused now. We really don't want any xorg.conf any longer in the system. I would recommend to run the keytable4hal script after having written /etc/sysconfig/kekboard accordingly. Code snippet from xdm script: # use system keyboard as global X keyboard configuration if [ -x /etc/X11/xdm/keytable4hal ]; then if /etc/X11/xdm/keytable4hal; then /etc/init.d/haldaemon stop && \ rm -f /var/cache/hald/fdi-cache && \ /etc/init.d/haldaemon start fi fi Or set the keyboard in YaST via setxkbmap as you already do in first stage. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

No, YaST does not write it that is correct. But in the times it did write xorg.conf, it was at the end of first stage, so 2nd stage used it. Now (already for some time, I know) we are not writing new xorg.conf, and there was no change in second stage to reflect this change, so it does not work. We did not find it earlier, because people usually use "automatic configuration", where 2nd stage is not interactive. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
