If you remove it the tree is no longer usable for a kiwi --create call /base-system ==> doesn't exist in all my test cases and is removed /var/cache/kiwi ==> is a bind mount location for the package manager meta data and is empty in the final image /var/lib/dpkg ==> is created because smart references on it for some reason.
