I just recovered my system as Yast Update went wrong cause of a full disk. I use to be polite but this is just too stupid for words. I like openSUSE a lot but if I read the discussion linked I am almost ashamed to use it. Why don't you switch it on? It has been this way almost forever, so people are used to it, and may not like the idea of changing this behaviour. Well, there has been one try during the switch to systemd, but that was changed again. And, this is not a bug, as it's like this intentionally, but should be discussed, maybe on some mailing list. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=860067 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=860067#c3 --- Comment #3 from Dr. Werner Fink <werner@suse.com> 2014-02-12 07:30:38 UTC --- IMHO this is not a bug but a configuration issue. See the manual with man 5 tmpfiles.d and copy /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/tmp.conf to /etc/tmpfiles.d/tmp.conf to change the later one to what you need -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Most bugs arise from mistakes and errors made by people in either a program's source code or its design" An (intentionally) broken design is a bug too. The Filesystem Hierarchy Standard (FHS) is clear about it: "/tmp Temporary files (see also /var/tmp). Often not preserved between system reboots." Temporary files. Temporary. Bug. Therefore I gonna be blunt and reopen this case (I know, that deserves death penalty). openSUSE does not follow the standard specified and by that it is broken. Which would not be a major problem if it would not lead to ncorrect or unexpected result. But it does. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Please stop this as this has to be configured. Ands you may read the cited text very sensitive: "Often not preserved between system reboots." What does this mean? It is not "Always not preserved" nor "Preserved" but "Often not preserved". How do *you* define "Often". Do not reopen again, as it remains a feature and on this feature is worked on. Just use the possiblilty from comment #3 to fit *your* needs. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=860067 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=860067#c6 --- Comment #6 from Bart Otten <bart.otten85@gmail.com> 2014-02-12 10:58:58 UTC --- Definition of 'temporary': lasting for only a limited period of time; not permanent. Source: https://www.google.nl/search?q=Temporary+definition I define this often as: many times cleared at boot but some may clear on another interval. Whatever my definition is...the word itself makes it NOT preserved forever. Maybe, as a work-around, openSUSE could ask if /tmp should be cleared on next boot if disk runs full. Don't expect users (ever) to read documentation to prevent crashes. Software should not lead to crashes by default. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
