[Bug 1234802] New: Steam fails to run with symlink error message on Pulse audio
https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1234802 Bug ID: 1234802 Summary: Steam fails to run with symlink error message on Pulse audio Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 15.6 Hardware: x86-64 OS: SUSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Other Assignee: screening-team-bugs@suse.de Reporter: erecio@polywog.org QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Target Milestone: --- Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:128.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/128.0 Build Identifier: 1.0.0.79-lp156.1.1 has a buggy bubblewrap version that has issues with symlinks (apparently with pulse audio this time). installed Steam from rpm (OpenSuSE's Freeware 1.0.0.79). Ran it, it downloaded some updates into ~/.local/share/Steam then I get a dialog box steamwebhelper, a critical Steam component, is not responding. The Steam UI will not be usable. Click here for more information. I have tried all the different "Restart" options presented: Restart Steam; Restart Steam with GPU Acceleration Disabled; Restart Steam with Browser Sandboxing Disabled; Restart Steamwebhelper to no avail. The only error on the console is something with bwrap symlink ("bwrap: Can't make symlink at /run/user/1001/pulse: destination exists and is not a symlink") on pulse (assuming pulse audio) and this keeps repeating: steamwebhelper.sh[14652]: Using supervisor /home/user1/.steam/root/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/amd64/usr/bin/steam-runtime- supervisor steamwebhelper.sh[14652]: Starting steamwebhelper under bootstrap sniper steam runtime via /home/user1/.local/share/Steam /ubuntu12_64/steam-runtime-sniper.sh steamwebhelper.sh[14652]: Using CEF sandbox \(try with -no-cef-sandbox if this fails\) steamwebhelper.sh[14652]: Starting steamwebhelper with Sniper steam runtime at /home/user1/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_64 /steam-runtime-sniper/_v2-entry-point bwrap: Can't make symlink at /run/user/1001/pulse: destination exists and is not a symlink Please update steam RPM to >= 1.0.80 with a working bubblewrap apparently... since it works on tumbleweed (people say). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. sudo zypper in steam steamcmd steamtricks steamtricks-data pidgin-plugin-libsteam libpurple-plugin-libsteam 2. Start steam: "steam" 3. Downloads the updates ubuntu12_64 image i presume. Actual Results: The following error repeats, regardless of what I select. steamwebhelper.sh[14652]: Using supervisor /home/user1/.steam/root/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/amd64/usr/bin/steam-runtime- supervisor steamwebhelper.sh[14652]: Starting steamwebhelper under bootstrap sniper steam runtime via /home/user1/.local/share/Steam /ubuntu12_64/steam-runtime-sniper.sh steamwebhelper.sh[14652]: Using CEF sandbox \(try with -no-cef-sandbox if this fails\) steamwebhelper.sh[14652]: Starting steamwebhelper with Sniper steam runtime at /home/user1/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_64 /steam-runtime-sniper/_v2-entry-point bwrap: Can't make symlink at /run/user/1001/pulse: destination exists and is not a symlink Expected Results: Steam main window to come up Please note, that I have upgraded my native bubblewrap to AFTER 0.8.0 (bubblewrap-0.11.0-2.1.x86_64.rpm) where there was an error with symlinking the user's ~/Pictures, ~/Documents, etc directory. I think they fixed this in 0.9.0+. however, it seems like Steam is not using my native bubblewrap package because I completely uninstalled it (apparently only flatpak was using it and that was uninstalled). So it must be using whatever version it downloaded for ubuntu environment it pulled down. Please update the steam version to >= 1.0.80 which I believe does work in tumbleweed according to some other users' feedback on the internet. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
