[Bug 472418] New: hibernate / suspend freezes system
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=472418 Summary: hibernate / suspend freezes system Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: 64bit OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Workspace AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: fenriswoolf@gmx.net QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; de; rv:1.9.0.5) Gecko/2008121300 SUSE/3.0.5-2.5 Firefox/3.0.5 i am researching the issue now for weeks, and the more i read, the more confused i get ... it seems that hibernate / suspend has got issues with 11.1 ... here is mine: whenever i select 'suspend to disk' or close my lid (gateway t1616 laptop, opensuse 11.1, kernel 2.6.27.7-9, kde4.1.3) the process starts but after about 10% progress it hangs up, and the only way to proceed is to push the power button ... don't remember having these problems in 10.3 or 11.0 ... i am a gui-guy, so if you need me to provide code, please send me the command line ... thanks for your help ... theo Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.close the lid and wait ... forever, or 2.push the power switch 3.system boots normally afterwards, though Actual Results: if i close the lid, or select 'suspend to disk' the system starts the hibernation process, but when it reaches about 10% completion, it stops and just hangs there, until i manually shut down by pushing the power button Expected Results: system should go into hibernation /suspend -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I suppose with vga=1 parameter? 10 % with framebuffer enabled (graphic mode with splash/pictures) means point before freezing. If it dies in 10 % in text mode, then it is while reading/compressing memory pages. As this is "hibernate / suspend" bug, what happens with pm-suspend after klogconsole command and vga=1 parameter? s2disk: snapshotting system
Maybe a dumb question. Do you suspend remotely via serial or network? I wonder why you don't even see "Syncing filesystems ... ", "PM: Shrinking memory... ", "Suspending console(s)" (in case of no_console_suspend was not passed) and others on the console you are running pm-hibernate from. You should definitely see them after proper setting of kernel console by klogconsole. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
