[Bug 334024] New: why doesnt Yast's "System Upgrade" doesnt upgrade ?
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=334024 Summary: why doesnt Yast's "System Upgrade" doesnt upgrade ? Product: SUSE Linux 10.1 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Update Problems AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: shanti@mojo.cc QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- is this option just a dub of an online-update function .. as i expect a SYSTEM to UPGRADE ( as in 'apt-get dist-upgrade' ) and not only UPDATE ( as in 'apt-get upgrade') this option is misleading, redundant and wrong .. since i expect a system-upgrade to findout actual Distro-version and UPGRADE .. i have seen that UPGRADEs are not Suse's strong points .. even developers suggest to make clean install - thats wag ! even a Distro-Upgrade from 10.2 to 10.3 is not possible in a running environment .. this behavior is stone-age , even debian solved this issue years ago .. it cannot be that an upgrade request a reboot before even starting to upgrade :-( ps: also the opensuse-DVD-rescue-system is a stepchild - dying bitter regards -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Version|Final |unspecified --- Comment #1 from Lukas Ocilka <locilka@novell.com> 2007-10-19 06:41:06 MST --- We actually do not support system upgrade of a running system, but the upgrade when you boot from installation media and run "Update" functionality is, of course, supported and well tested. ---- i have seen that UPGRADEs are not Suse's strong points .. even developers suggest to make clean install - thats wag ! ---- Hard to find out who said that :) The YaST team definitely do not suggest doing a clean installation if you already have one. System upgrade is supported. BUT DON'T DO IT ON A PRODUCTION MACHINE! :O) It has not been tested extensively. It just selects packages to upgrade just like yast does it when you upgrade from an installation medium and then calls rpm to upgrade the selected packages. So the effect is the same as if you run rpm manually for all those packages on a running system. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
