[Bug 215522] New: [feature-request] add simple way to show the Video RAM
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=215522 Summary: [feature-request] add simple way to show the Video RAM Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Beta 1 Platform: PC OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: al4321@gmail.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com hi all ! A very trivial feature (under Windows) such as showing amount of Video RAM turned to be very hard (next to impossible) under Linux. I am not nooby in Linux world (3 years of exp), but the command is not trivial either. We have made long discussions on the mailing lists with many knowledgable people about that topic. We came to conclusion that the only command that could deliver more-or-less reliable results is: "grep -i ram /var/log/Xorg.0.log" other commands, such as "lspci -v -v" were found not reliable i.e. failing on some systems. "grep -i mb /var/log/Xorg.0.log" and "grep -i vesa /var/log/Xorg.0.log" failed too... (especially problematic system was VMware 5). Yast2 & Sax2 doesn't show that at all. (at least I couldnt find) So I ask you to provide users with a simple way to find out how much Video RAM a system has. Maybe add that feature to Sax2 ? both GUI version (under KDE) and text version (using "sax2 -p") must help the user identify his video card. NOTE: the topic was: "please help found out how much "video RAM" the video card has", started on 26.10.2006 on "suse-linux-e@suse.com" list. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

The command syps -q xstuff shows among other things the graphics memory in Kbytes So this is fixed for 10.3 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
