[Bug 279414] New: Dual 2 Core running on the same freqency on both CPUs
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=279414 Summary: Dual 2 Core running on the same freqency on both CPUs Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: ffiene@veka.com QAContact: qa@suse.de I am wondering about the frequency of my Dual 2 Core CPU. If im looking for this in kpowersave, i see every time the same frequency. How can i test, if different frequencies are possible? How can i test CPU Utilization on both CPUs? I feel that my CPU is running only as a Hyperthreaded CPU not as a dual core! -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=279414 ------- Comment #1 from ffiene@veka.com 2007-05-31 03:00 MST ------- Sorry, i meant same frequency on both CPUs on the core! So if there is one task with high CPU load, both CPUs are running on 2GHz. My system is a Thinkpad Z61p with a T7200 CPU! -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Moving to kernel maintainers to answer better. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Cyril is correct, what you're seeing is entirely normal. My Core 2 Duo system's /proc/cpuinfo produces similar results. As far as the process scheduler is concerned, there are two separate CPUs. Since they're on one core, though, the frequency must be the same on both. Closing as WORKSFORME. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
