[Bug 631303] New: Asus WL-160N using rt2870sta driver is not working and requires removal of rt2800usb and staging rt2870 driver and override of default nl80211 driver
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=631303 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=631303#c0 Summary: Asus WL-160N using rt2870sta driver is not working and requires removal of rt2800usb and staging rt2870 driver and override of default nl80211 driver Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: kiwilinux@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US) AppleWebKit/534.3 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/6.0.472.33 Safari/534.3 The Asus WL-160N USB wireless adapter fails to be configured correctly by YAST or network manager. The staging rt2870 driver is loaded but does not work. The latest driver from ralink can be built and loaded in the kernel but will still not work. The rt2800usb driver must be blacklisted and the included staging rt2870sta driver removed. Then the latest driver can be installed successfully and interface ra0 is created. Either of the included drivers will not create ra0 and will stop the latest driver from being loaded correctly. The default nl80211 driver has to be replaced with wext or it will error and dhcp will fail. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.install vanilla opensuse 11.3 2.attach asus wl-160N 3. Actual Results: the asus adapter is recognised by the usb subsyatem and rt2800usb and rt2870 driver loaded but no ra0 interface created. Expected Results: the included staging rt2870sta driver should have created ra0 and YAST able to configure the connection. This is fully reproducible and I am happy to test any patches or work arounds provided. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Either of the included drivers will not create ra0 and will stop the latest driver from being loaded correctly.
What is in dmesg when you try to load each of the drivers (rt2800usb and rt2870sta)? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
