[Bug 242039] New: networkmanager too slow to start up
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=242039 Summary: networkmanager too slow to start up Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: erik@hensema.net QAContact: qa@suse.de On my normal desktop, which is always connected to the same ethernet lan using dhcp, networkmanager is too to start up. When kdm has started, the network isn't ready yet. Since my account is stored on a remote LDAP server, logging in is impossible. Also, ntpdate (as part of the ntpd init script) can't get the time from the ntp server. When networkmanager eventually obtains an IP from the DHCP server after a few seconds and I can log in, knetworkmanager believes networkmanager is not running. After several minutes knetworkmanager thinks networkmanager is connecting to the network. When I manually order it to connect, a progressbar starts running and after a few seconds the connection is active. Of course the network has been running fine all along. Also, the DHCP leases are extremely short (about 30 minutes while my DHCP server gives out leases lasting a day or longer). But that's probably got little to do with this bug. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I suspect networkmanager is not slow, but its simply the case that its not blocking like traditional ifup. You can have it wait by changing NM_ONLINE_TIMEOUT in /etc/sysconfig/network/config. As for knetwork manager not noticing, moving to timo. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Do you have your network configured with YaST? Note that the dbus errors are caused by me stopping the dbus daemon in order to start firefox (see Bug 242037 - this problem has gone away now, by the way). I stopped dbus after logging into kde, so after the network has gone up. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
