Some googling suggested a workaround -- add model=thinkpad to the snd_hda_intel config in /etc/modprobe.d/. I added mine to 99-local.conf and rebooted, and now my sound works (better, but not as good as 12.3). This appears to be a reversion, since I had to do this a few releases ago, and haven't had to do it in a while. It should have worked as is, at least the pins for the docking station must be set up without any option. Do you mean that plugging to the dock headphone (or line-out) jack mutes the speaker output but also no sound comes from the plugged jack? If I unplug the external speakers from the dock, the built-in speakers work. With model=thinkpad, plugging in the external speakers makes the internal speakers stop working (as expected) and sound comes from the external speakers (as expected). I might be unclear in the above: please give alsa-info.sh outpust at both states, the dock speaker jack is plugged (the built-in muted but no output from jack) and the dock speaker jack is unplugged (the built-in works). Running amixer -c0 set Headphone unmute should recover. The problem is that the codec has only two DACs while there are three outputs. So, two of three must share one DAC, but this information isn't explicitly exposed to user-space, thus PulseAudio doesn't know it shouldn't mute. A simple solution would be to use a single DAC for all outputs (as Master).
