[Bug 213001] New: yast2 uses password for "open" WLANs
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=213001 Summary: yast2 uses password for "open" WLANs Product: SUSE LINUX 10.0 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: thorsten.staerk@sap.com QAContact: kkaempf@novell.com When I configure my WLAN card with Yast2, I can chose the "open" network and then, nevertheless, enter a password. This password is not ignored, but makes the WLAN access impossible. This is not what I expect, I would expect that for an "open" WLAN connection, any password is ignored. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Should I disable widgets ("Key Input Type" radio buttons and "Encryption Key" text entry) for "open authentication mode" (and ignore their values)? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The help text of the YaST module explains this. To make this even more clear, we could add a check box "Use encryption" which enables the key input widgets. It would have to be auto selected for shared key and WPA modes, and selectable by the user for open mode. I don't know whether it's worth the effort, though. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
From comment #3: when YaST uses password for "open" WLANs it's not a bug But now there is new option "No encryption" which disable and don't use
