Because I just tried your first attachment, fixed the reference, set autofilter on the data range, and re-saved the document all in Excel. When I opened it in Calc and changed the filter setting, the subtotal result changed accordingly. So, I'm still not reproducing it. BTW what version of Excel produced the original attachment?
