Note - I attempted to try a manual download of available repository files.
All I found was an ATIdriver (I guess) file for the kernel.
I downloaded it last night.
When I rebooted this morning, no x11 video.
After trying several things, I did a fresh install of OS 11.1 from factory DVD.
That fixed the video issue.
Auto update never pinged me today for the updates that have caused this
problem.
Okay, per your instructions here is what I did in terminal -

.........................................................
As you can see, after gpk-update-viewer printed out, I could not find/get the
/var/log/pk_backend_zypp file.
I tried a couple of commands so see where I was, but nothing worked until I
closed the GUI window of zypper.
Since I was getting a "permission denied" note, I tried to see what permissions
I had in Yast (this machine is set up as a single-user home machine) and change
them if possible.
I am the only user and also Root (not at the same time).
But even as Root I did not have permission for this file, it seems.
I could not find a place to examine/change permissions.
As you can see, my command line skills(?) are pretty limited.
BTW, I do not know how to "move /var/log/pk_backend_zypp out of the way".
I assume that means move the file to another location/directory but I don't
know the command to do that.
But since I could not locate the file, I could not even attempt any commands
for that.
I should also note that the downloads that showed as available did not include
the kernel update that is/was the cause of this problem in the first place.
Maybe that is important, maybe not.
Thanks for your help, Scott.
