I think there is no clean way of doing this if you cannot write a function

bool is_generated(path) { }

and return true or false with 100% success.

While implementing the link solution I have seen that update-alternatives has an own "database" to store more information about the entries and which I can use for storing the information who has created the libalternatives entry.
