https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=242062 novell@skewray.com changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|NEEDINFO |NEW Info Provider|novell@skewray.com | ------- Comment #3 from novell@skewray.com 2007-02-07 21:07 MST ------- I got the video driver problem fixed, and ran SaX2. I think I got confused about how to run it. Since the top section said VESA 1024 x ..., I tried to set that to something more reasonable. First I didn't find my monitor, and then VESA had nothing close, so I picked 1440x900 under LCD and lowered the timings. This time I just picked 1440x900 at the bottom, and during the test, SaX2 picked 51Hz, which is okay for this monitor. I guess SaX2 works fine; it just needs to be easier to use for idiots like myself. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=242062 novell@skewray.com changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|NEEDINFO |NEW Info Provider|novell@skewray.com | ------- Comment #5 from novell@skewray.com 2007-02-08 20:49 MST ------- When I run SaX2, I do what most people probably do; I check each line starting at the top and going down. The first line (graphics card) is fine, but the next line (VESA 1024 x 768) is wrong. So I first look inside for my monitor. My monitor is not there. So I then go look for a VESA 1440x900. There is none on the list. That may be where the problem is. So what I did the first time was to look in LCD, where I did see a 1440x900, but at the wrong frequency. I then set the maximum frequency to 60Hz on the sccond tab. I have no way to know that I should be using the even lower section on the page, with the pull-down menu. I also have no way to know, until I run the test, that the monitor ends up running at 60Hz and not 75Hz. Who would I report my monitor specs to, so that they later appear in SaX? I nice idea might be to have a note about that in the help, so people can report missing monitors. On another subject, I also have another commend about SaX and the graphics driver. If the graphics driver has no 3D, then the graphics card page should say so. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to turn on 3D for the nv driver, not knowing that there isn't any 3D support. With the Nvidia driver, the 3D box appears, but cannot be unchecked. That could also use some explanation as well. Thanks for listening to my rant! -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=242062 ms@novell.com changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Severity|Normal |Enhancement Summary|Display Resolution Missing |sax2: show message if 3D is not possible |From List | ------- Comment #6 from ms@novell.com 2007-02-09 07:47 MST ------- ok, thanks so some note on that: 1) I added 1440x900 into VESA and LCD section so you will find it there as expected 2) The frequency X will choose at the end is outside of my scope as well so I also recognize the real value used by the X-Server after a test. I'm sorry but this can't be changed because X is using different algorithms per driver to choose a specific mode timing. In almost all cases it is near to the suggestion made by sax but it's not exactly the same 3) We tried to ask people and give explanations about how to contribute into the CDB (component database) but the result was frustrating because people don't care for that data in a way that it would help a lot. I'm sorry to say but there are only a few out there who are really interested to provide technical information usable by applications. The result was even worse because I had implemented a notification as you suggested and people complained about that message bothering them all the time ;) so you see that's in principal a nice idea but didn't work 4) I thought if I disable the 3D button than it is clear that 3D is not supported for the card ? ok I will mark this bug as an enhancement for a better 3D message information the user that this card cannot enable 3D 5) nvidia 3D is a special case as soon as you have installed the binary driver you can't disable it except uninstalling the driver. As sax is not a tool to install or uninstall anything we have to live with the fact that you cannot disable 3D in case of the binary only nvidia driver ==> changed subject for better 3D message ==> marked as enhancement Hope this helps you -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
