[Bug 804521] New: Package kernel-firmware not installed by default with Broadcom
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=804521 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=804521#c0 Summary: Package kernel-firmware not installed by default with Broadcom Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: Final Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.2 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: tonrev@gmail.com QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:18.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/18.0 It is the same bug as Bug 733148 that I already posted with version 12.1 and was marked as solved but it is still present in version 12.2. The problem is that when Broadcom (open source) driver brcmsmac is installed the required firmware that is in package kernel-firmware is not installed by the installer. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.New installation in a system with a Broadcom 4313 (may be others) wireless card 2. 3. Actual Results: Wireless card is not detected after installation Expected Results: This wireless card is supported by the kernel and should work out of the box If after the installation you manually install the package kernel-firmware that is in the openSUSE repositories and restart the network system, the wireless card is already detected and works. This problem was already reported in 12.1 and marked as solved for 12.1 and 12.2 but at least in my PC it is still not working. It is "only" a question that when the installer detects and installs the driver brcmsmac, it must also install package kernel-firmware -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

We package the firmware up for inclusion but don't touch the bits that pull it in when necessary. -> Installation -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

So 12.2 is probably still unfixed or an update is not yet released. In case of doubt, reopen 733148 and ask for an update on 12.2. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 733148 *** http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=733148 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
