[Bug 1007692] New: Video mode selection is not available in the installation GRUB menu
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1007692 Bug ID: 1007692 Summary: Video mode selection is not available in the installation GRUB menu Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 42.2 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation Assignee: yast2-maintainers@suse.de Reporter: geo@ulduzsoft.com QA Contact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- There seem to be no way anymore to choose the resolution to use during the installation as described in the manual: https://doc.opensuse.org/documentation/leap/startup/html/book.opensuse.start... - there is no menu to choose the resolution, and F3 button does nothing. The installation then uses the default video mode - and this breaks installation on hiDPI devices like Zenbook, where the default resolution chosen by X server makes the fonts unreadable. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Steffen, I have also observed that in some systems linuxrc shows an alternative screen without the F1..F6 menus or the "boot options" line. But I don't know what triggers that.
On the other hand, I don't have any of those systems at hand. George, could you attach a picture of that initial screen with no options?
That's a difference LEGACY vs UEFI... e.g. Legacy boot mode: https://openqa.opensuse.org/tests/295801#step/bootloader/3 UEFI boot mode: https://openqa.opensuse.org/tests/295805#step/bootloader_uefi/3 -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

That's what I suspected, but I didn't come to the idea of using openQA to verify it (that's why it's good to be surrounded by people smarter than oneself). But still I don't know what's the rationale to not offer the keyboard shortcuts in UEFI systems. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
