[Bug 652116] New: YaST Package Management UI installation mode and status info rearrangement
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=652116 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=652116#c0 Summary: YaST Package Management UI installation mode and status info rearrangement Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Final Platform: All OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: carlo.strata@tiscali.it QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; it; rv:1.9.2.12) Gecko/20101026 SUSE/3.6.12-1.1 Firefox/3.6.12 As discussed here https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=651806#c8 with Ricardo Cruz and suggested here https://features.opensuse.org/120340 and posted here in the past https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=473822 it is now time to take care of Yast installation mode and status window quality. So we can: 1. if you want to maintain the two-phase install process (packages download and packages installation), use the global progress bar (from 0% to 50%, e.g.) to inform people on the global download status (with some correct numerical information on labels)... and from 50% + 1 to 100% to inform on global install status (with analogs correct information). 2. I think download all packages before installing them (like Windows 7 updates utility does) without paralleling the two tasks (download and install with the famous http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Producer-consumer_problem) may be difficult to do on low storage space systems (and I see on OpenFATE (features.opensuse.org) many people ask for return back at least to the old style process in which each package were installed just after have been downloaded). Surely may exist inconsistency problems if, e.g., network link fall down and you don't have new packages on local machine and the computer must restart... 3. Take a lot of care of the various byte counters that must be coherent (download sizes, install sizes, percentage) and well updated (in the right and correct instant/moment)!!! This last thing must be correct: we have suffered just too much time!!! Information are useful only if are correct: if they aren't, data are not information and yield a low quality OpenSuSE image/mind/thoughts in users and people. Not so good. ;-) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Simply use current (11.3) Yast2 --install application Actual Results: See Details. Expected Results: See Details. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Would you mind filling them into OpenFate instead? Because this is the right tool for such requests, especially when your features require changes in more YaST layers. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
