[Bug 760077] New: sd card reader not recognized because of bad additional kernel module
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=760077 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=760077#c0 Summary: sd card reader not recognized because of bad additional kernel module Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: post@jbechtel.de QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Opera/9.80 (X11; Linux x86_64; U; de) Presto/2.10.229 Version/11.62 Udevadm was: looking at parent device '/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:05.0/0000:03:00.0/mmc_host/mmc0/mmc0:e624': KERNELS=="mmc0:e624" SUBSYSTEMS=="mmc" DRIVERS=="mmc_test" (? I don't remember the exact name) Above mmc0:e624, there was no subdevice printed. Reproducible: Didn't try Steps to Reproduce: 1. Boot openSUSE 12.1 to a machine with a direct PCI SD Card reader (that is, most probably, a mobile computer) Actual Results: You don't see the characteristic /dev/mmcblk0pX files Expected Results: You see /dev/mmcblk0pX and you can mount them / run parted on them etc... I got the card reader working. Udevadm now shows (directly copied from console): looking at parent device '/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:05.0/0000:03:00.0/mmc_host/mmc0/mmc0:e624': KERNELS=="mmc0:e624" SUBSYSTEMS=="mmc" DRIVERS=="mmcblk" After removing the file /lib/modules/3.1.0-1.2-desktop/kernel/drivers/mmc/card/mmc_test.ko everything worked fine. But I don't know whether the next kernel update causes the file to be regenerated which wouldn't bee too good. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It has the block devices /after/ you removed the module?
Yes, I'm able to access the data as if it were on a hard disk or usb flash drive. Actually, deleting the module + running depmod + mkinitrd out of chroot enabled me to boot from the card. (Before, it couldn't find the boot device. A comparison with Knoppix, which was able to access the flash drive, led me to the bad module.) My btrfs partitions is even mounted with "ssd": see output of "mount": ... /dev/mmcblk0p2 on / type btrfs (rw,relatime, ssd) ... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I'm curious how the driver was getting loaded at all.
Do you want some logs / config files? Shall I close the bug? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
