https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=781443 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=781443#c0 Summary: KDM uses different keyboard layout then KDE Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: Final Platform: 64bit OS/Version: openSUSE 12.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Workspace AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: j_ens16@hotmail.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:15.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/15.0 In KDE I have a azerty keyboard layout. But before I can login in KDE, when I type my password in KDM, the layout is qwerty causing bad password errors. In yast, /etc/sysconfig editor, the keyboard - keytable parameter is correct set to azerty (be-latin1.map.gz). Also In yast - language module, all settings are correct for localisation (set to nl_BE). The only place where keyboard layout is qwerty is during login in KDM. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.boot pc 2.wait untill KDM is started 3.type password Actual Results: password is incorrect because of bad keyboard layout Expected Results: keyboard layout should be azerty instead of qwerty -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

But the weird thing is that I also have a laptop with same keyboard layout and the problem does not appear. I have installed a full fresh copy of opensuse12.2 on my laptop, reformat all partitions except the home partition. Because I had that problem when testing the installation into a VM, I wrote down every single step of the install process. I did not have the keyboard layout problem. I did exactly the same installation on my desktop and the keyboard layout is not loaded. During the installation the keyboard layout is the right one. The problem is even worse when you use punctuation signs or @,% etc chars in your password. Can lead to an unusable machine, you cannot even login as root. I have looked at the system config files, everything seems to be perfectly correct. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

We run openSUSE 12.2 installs using autoyast, on a number of laptop and desktop systems in our office. So far installing about 15 systems this never occured to us. As of today we run the install with the fresh KDE 4.9.3 repo, if that might be part of the issue. Today we made an install on a slightly different type of system, which has a Logitech Bluetooth keyboard as its main keyboard. What we experience, is that the (German) system keyboard setting, on that one system / install / keyboard, is not active at the KDM login screen. The keyboard is operated using US layout instead. After logging in, everything is fine. The strangest thing is this: we add a normal USB connected keyboard to the box, in addition to the Logitech Bluetooth keyboard. As soon as we press the 'z' key on that additional USB keyboard, we see that German layout is active (the 'z' comes out in the username KDM box) - AND from then on the Logitech keyboard is ALSO on German layout! Unfortunately it does not help to have the USB keyboard connected during boot - the Logitech Bluetooth keyboard is stuck at US layout until a key is pressed on the USB keyboard... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Annoying, unable to find a solution so far. In 12.3 (maybe also in 12.2), it is sufficient to ad a file /etc/X11/Xkbmap with the only content "de". At least in 13.1. there seems to be an error in /etx/X11/xdm/Xsetup: xkbmap is defined, but never used. For local displays, $sysxkbmap should feed into $xkbmap as follows: sparrow X11/xdm# diff Xsetup.org Xsetup 203c203 < cat $sysxkbmap | $xkbcomp - $DISPLAY ---
cat $sysxkbmap |$xkbmap -print | $xkbcomp - $DISPLAY
Of course, the file /etc/X11/Xkbmap has to be present (with mentioned content). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
