Both come up with a error finding the corrrect sound module. Yast2 and alsaconf find it correctly. It was caused by /etc/dsp and the group audio not having the users name. Question I have is why SuSE sets the audio not to work with a user. However, root works. Then in the same vain "Do not run as root because you might destroy your system" This reminds me of the CD burning issue of a few years ago. K3B worked as a user by the CD device failed. It was just the other way around for root. So, neither root or a user could make thing work. I guess the case is closed.
