https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=209365 Summary: iscan installation lacks program menu entry Product: SUSE Linux 10.1 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: nteknikk@monet.no QAContact: qa@suse.de "iscan-1.18.0.1" (propriarity binary only) on Suse 10.1 and before, has been available among others on the DVD iso and for download at ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/10.1/inst-source-extra/suse/i586 ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/10.1/SUSE-Linux10.1-GM-Extra/suse/i586 The iscan (GUI front-end) has lacked a Program menu entry among the scanner programs after the installations: Programs>Graphics>Scanning Expect "iscan" still will continue to be available as an extra non-OSS application in openSUSE 10.2 alos to support Epson scanner models that "iscan-free"*) still doesn't support. *)("iscan" proprietarity must not be confused with "iscan-free-2.2.0.1", now available on the SL-OSS-factory. This latter version doesn't contain any frontend, just the free epkowa driver for SANE (backend) and lacks support for some Epson scanners. However it can be run from standard frontends like Xsane) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I didn't add a menu entry for /usr/bin/iscan because it is no general scanner frontend because it doesn't work for non-Epson scanners. But if I use a proper menue entry like "Epson scanner frontend", it should be clear for the user that this one is only for Epson scanners.
Ok. The people who install "iscan" optional will normally know that they need iscan. I will suggest a little modified menu entry name "Iscan for Epson" that both contain the program name and the target. (Also standard Sane/Xsane may work for Epson models, at least for plain flatbed scanning. In my experience the difference usual arise regarding full support for ADF and Photo options/models like i.e Epson Perfection 1640SU and Photo.) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
