[Bug 470969] New: /var/X11R6 not in FHS
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=470969 Summary: /var/X11R6 not in FHS Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: sndirsch@novell.com ReportedBy: lnussel@novell.com QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: Development xorg-x11-server has /usr/bin/X as symlink to /var/X11R6/bin/X which in turn points to /usr/bin/Xorg. Unfortunately /var/X11R6 is not covered by FHS. The method with the symlink stems from XFree86 3 times when one needed to change the default X server to use. Is switching the default X server still required noways? I somehow doubt it but if we still need that feature what about using update-alternatives? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Not sure which other scripts/programs are affected by this change. Hopefully we find them all in time for final release of openSUSE 11.2. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Instead of /var/X11R6/bin/X what should be used? Maybe /var/bin/X? /usr could still be mounted via NFS, so /usr/bin/X doesn't seem to be a valid option. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

If you need to use a custom method a subdir of /var/lib/ such as /var/lib/X11 could be used. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
