[Bug 654262] New: US Robotics wlan card: ndiswrapper does not find manufacturer section
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=654262 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=654262#c0 Summary: US Robotics wlan card: ndiswrapper does not find manufacturer section Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: estellnb@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; de; rv:1.9.2.12) Gecko/20101026 SUSE/3.6.12-0.7.1 Firefox/3.6.12
ndiswrapper -i AUTORUN.INF couldn't find SourceDisksFiles section - continuing anyway... installing autorun ... couldn't get manufacturer section - installation may be incomplete
ndiswrapper -i ./Software/NPF/DE/AUTORUN.INF driver autorun is already installed
There are no more autorun.infs. Without the manufacturer section the wlan pcmcia card can not be recognized by the system (not displayed by Yast). According to US-robotics ndiswrapper was the only way to make use of this card. Is there any way to add the manufacturers section manually? Can I not try to modprobe the appropriate driver manually? You can try and load the "orinoco", but maybe you'll have to put some firmware into the /lib/firmware [1]. Hint: "modinfo orinoco"
If that should not help what is about ndiswrapper? Yes, this the other possibility. But, to stay effective maybe it would be better to consider some of the native supported usb devices [2].

I doubt that the provided firmwares can match a 'Texas Instruments' card as the USR is. Perhaps the source sourceforge are not up to date either because the kernel module as found in /usr/src/linux seems to be much newer. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

If I perform setup.exe with wine this copies all the required files to ~/.wine/drive_c. iwlist eth2 scanning and iwconfig eth2 essid tc work. However wpa_supplicant fails because the -D ndis option does not seem to be currently compiled in with openSuSE. Only -D ndiswrapper is available which however does not work with linuxant (weird string is assumed for essid like f2\x0D\xB71X\xA3Z%]\x05\...). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

That worked quite well at first; however later on it turned out to be completely unusable.
