[Bug 557569] New: Incorrect driver for Broadcom 4312 causes installer and live CD to lock up
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=557569 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=557569#c0 Summary: Incorrect driver for Broadcom 4312 causes installer and live CD to lock up Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: i386 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: caitlynmmartin@gmail.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.5) Gecko/20091109 Ubuntu/9.10 (karmic) Firefox/3.5.5 System is an HP Mini 110 netbook, Intel Atom N270 processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB SSD storage, with a Broadcom 4312 wireless chipset. The installer or the live CD detect the 4312 and attempt to load the ssb and b43 drivers which are not correct. This causes a lockup and failure to boot. Passing an option to the kernel to prevent loading the ssb driver successfully works around this problem. Also, after a network install when the system restarts and attempts to boot for the first time it fails, again locking up when attempting to load the b43 driver. Once again, passing a kernel option to prevent the ssb driver from loading allows the system to boot up properly, albeit without wireless support. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Two options: 1. Boot the live CD on a system with a Broadcom 4312 wireless chipset. On my HP mini 110 this will fail 100% of the time. -or- 1. Install via the network installer on a similar system 2. Restart system when the installer finishes Either way the failure rate is 100%. Actual Results: The system locked when trying to load the b43 kernel module. Expected Results: Two possibilities: Since broadcom-wl (the correct driver) is not included in the main openSUSE repositories (it is in PackMan) I would expect the installer to not load anything at all. This is what Fedora and Slackware do. Alternately, if the broadcom-wl driver was available it could be loaded. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
